Improve This Listing

Following extensive and sympathetic refurbishment in 2018 the pub has now been divided by a central bar serving both sides. The bar area has cosy corners and snugs warmed by a log burner fire. The smaller lounge area has french doors opening onto the courtyard which has a large covered area. Off this courtyard is a function room which has been restored with reclaimed oak panelling. Three of Joule's regular beers and a seasonal ale, also from Joules complement the home cooked food that is served every day through out the Pub.

Historic Interest

Originally called the Punch Bowl and first licensed in 1792.

Restoration

Originally licensed in 1792 and now a Joules house following extensive and sympathetic refurbishment. The central bar serves both sides which have interesting nooks and crannies. Cosy corners and snugs are warmed by a log fire. The function room has been restored with reclaimed oak panelling. There is much rowing memorabilia. A lot of effort has gone into retaining a pubby feel, which impressed enough for it to win the award for outstanding refurbished street-corner local in the 2020 CAMRA Pub Design Awards. There are real ales and cider and meals.
