Historic Interest
In WW1 pub was home to C Company 2/6 of the London Regiment & it narrowly avoided being destroyed in a bombing raid by a Zeppelin on 31 March 1916 when 8 high explosives & 19 incendiary bombs were dropped on the town. Houses in East Street were destroyed, killing four people outright & one soldier who died a few days later.
