Historic Interest
Perkins is located at the Midland Railway's former station at Plumtree. The line here was part of the Nottingham to London "Manton" route which avoided Leicester. This route is now part of the Old Dalby Test Track and is currently used for testing London Underground's "S Stock" units. Designed by Midland Railway architect John Holloway Saunders, the station opened to goods in November 1879 and passengers in February 1880. Plumtree closed to passengers in 1949. The former Goods Shed has become a function room and a conservatory extension has been built on the platform.
