Bird i'th Hand, Hindley

The Bird I’th Hand is a large traditional old pub with wooden beamed ceilings in the central main area; situated on the edge of the town centre of Hindley, near Wigan, having a car park at the rear and a beer garden with under cover smoking area. The site has excellent accessibility being close to bus and rail links and is nearby a densely populated areas which consist of mixed demographics. The pub is a great community local, back bar food snacks, Sky sports, offers weekly entertainment of a DJ on a Friday night and hosts a quiz on a Thursday night and has good value pricing and free Wi-Fi. Inside the pub, it is split into different areas: Commercial Room, with Sky TV and darts – which is where other pub games are played; The main bar with central servery with another TV, two other areas off this, the lounge area with another TV and the games room with a pool table. Within the pub there are photographs of how the pub used to look in years gone by, plus prior to the refurbishment a sign on the outside of the pub had these words “IN EVERY TOWN, THE INN OR TAVERN HAS A LONG HISTORY, OFTEN AS OLD AS THE ORIGINAL HAMLET ITSELF. A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BIRD I’TH HAND, BUILT IN 1607 REVEALS THAT IT WAS A COACHING HOUSE. IT IS ONE OF THE OLDEST BUILDINGS IN HINDLEY, HENCE ITS LISTED BUILDING STATUS AND BOASTS A HAUNTED SEAT SOMEWHERE IN THE VAULT, WHICH HAS REPUTEDLY BEEN USED AS A MORGUE AT SOME POINT"
