Two bar pub rather hidden away on back streets. Renovated in mid-2017, making the pub much more light and up-to-date without losing its character. Twelve handpumps serve five regular beers and up to seven guests, with a focus on nationally-available larger breweries. Dating from the 1860s, it was called the Swan until 1975. The front bar is beautifully decorated with inset pre-decimal coins. A partially-covered garden to the rear of the pub doubles as a smoking area.
The menu consists of typical 'pub fayre', and an all-day breakfast is always available. On Sundays, only roasts are served, but take note that in June 2022 there was a notice on their website that the kitchen was temporarily closed so do check for a reopening date.
The landlord is a keen darts player, which is reflected in the facility of two darts boards - leagues play here on Mondays & Wednesdays. The Thursday quiz is popular.
Bus stops on Waterloo Road (Bluestar 6, 8, 11, 12) or Shirley Road (the rest).
This Pub serves 7 changing beers and 5 regular beers.
