Historic Interest
Simpsons of Piccadilly opened in April 1936, at the time the largest menswear store in Britain. It was created by Alexander Simpson, and designed by Joseph Emberton, to showcase the range of clothing produced by S Simpson and company and DAKS. The building is listed Grade II* for its innovative use of materials and steel construction, and is regarded as Emberton's masterpiece. (Historic England reference 1226639). Many of the fittings and lighting designed by Emberton are still in place.
