On the Roman road from Canterbury to Hythe, the Chequers was built in 1898. The bar area has comfortable leather sofas. Public transport is by bus and is very limited. Closed in May 2019 and there were fears for its future. Re-opened in May 2022 to the relief of locals.
Now serving a real ale from a local brewery. Food is homecooked and good value. A new meal deal is advertised on Facebook.
