Early 19th-century market place pub with two rooms divided by a central bar. This former Batemans pub is now operated by Pub People Company and is looking to regain its status as a proper ale pub after past disappointments, with usually 4 cask ales now available. Regular enterainment includes Wednesday American Folk, Thursday Open Mic, Friday Live Acts, Saturday Karaoke Disco and Sunday Quiz.
Historic Interest
Formerly used as accommodation for visiting theatre troupes and as a meeting place for Druids and Oddfellows; it has also witnessed at least one murder in its time.
