Reopened 14/12/23 after a protracted closure. Former Greenall Whitley pub near Shrewsbury market hall. Decorated in a tastefully modern style (wooden floor boards, polished tables, clear windows etc.). Has two handpumps, only one in use at present, a second Salopian beer is expected to be added in 2024. Will be opening from 8am in 2024. It did use to offer accommodation, this is no longer the case.
Historic Interest
The pub was rebuilt and set back from the corner in 1935 when road widening took place. At the time it was owned by Greenall Whitley, hence the Wilderspool plaque set in the external wall (Wilderspool was the name of Greenall's Warrington Brewery). When Greenall Whitley acquired the Wem Brewery in the 1950s the pub's beer was supplied from there until Greenalls closed it in 1988. In 1965 the Exchange became the first pub in the Shrewsbury area to serve beer through metered pumps.
This Pub serves no changing beers and 1 regular beer.
