A well known bar close to both the Kings Theatre and Charing Cross Rail Station which re-opened in 2022 under the ownership of the Isle of Skye Brewery. The Griffin is a 'B' listed building and retains much wood panelling and original features. The front door opens to the main island bar which has two sets of handpumps offering Skye beers. To the rear is a function room with a separate bar (no real ale) which is often used for comedy and music events.
Ales can be sampled in flights of four 1/3rd pint glasses.
One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest
Listed status: B
Some superb remnants still exist from a grand remodelling in Art Nouveau style in 1903-4 under architect William Reid, but they are just remnants, following crass alterations in the 1960s. The exterior, however, still retains much of the exciting, original flavour. Inside, the counter front and base of the gantry are original but the most interesting work is around the periphery with clear remains of snugs behind wide, arched openings, including stained glass work.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers and 2 regular beers.
