A smart upmarket 17th-century pub and hotel located in the heart of the Somerset countryside
A smart upmarket 17th-century inn located in the heart of the Somerset countryside within easy reach of Wells, Frome, and Bath. Under independent ownership from Nov 2019 the focus is very much on sustainability and sourcing food from the pub kitchen garden.
There is a lovely garden with extensive views over to Downside Abbey. The pub holds the key for the adjacent church - as seen on the Poldark tv series.
Historic Interest
Holcombe was a settlement in Domesday Book and had a recorded population of 8 households in 1086 putting it as one of the smallest settlements recorded.
The Old Church of St. Andrew is nearby, once known as “the plague Church” .
