Improve This Listing

Situated close to the harbour in one of Norfolk's most picturesque coastal villages, this old building was originally three fishermen's cottages.

The interior comprises a series of interconnecting rooms, and there is a large garden to one side (not used in the evenings). Around five to six real ales are available, dispensed either by handpump or gravity, including at least one from Woodforde's.

Children are welcome in all rooms except the bar, dogs are welcome, and the pub has seven bedrooms available.

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: II

Originally three fisherman's cottages, the Kings Head now sports several rooms but the original layout featured just two, plus an off-sales. A wall plaque records the 1953 flood level and the bar fittings, including the lapped wood counters and red Formica-covered bar-back shelves, date from the subsequent refit. The public bar has a red quarry-tiled floor, an exposed flint wall and an old but repaired fireplace - the dado panelling and long benches are much older. Similar panelling adorns the Lounge which was combined many years ago with another small room to the far right with a 1950s fireplace. Two further rooms to the left entered pub use in the 1980s and the 'Garden Room' is even more recent.

General information about historic pub interiors

Built 1760 and originally three fisherman's cottages. It consists of 4 small rooms and a plaque on the wall records the flood level in 1953. The original layout looks like it could have been two rooms and an off-sales hatch situated opposite the front door. The bar fittings appear to be those installed following the 1953 flood. The public bar on the left has a red quarry tiled floor, a 1950s style lapped wood counter with a new top, bar back shelving includes ones with 1950s red Formica on them, the large brick fireplace could have some 1950s changes as it contains both hand made and machine-made bricks, but the dado panelling is much older as could be the two long benches.

To the right the lounge bar has another lapped wood counter with a new top, more bar back shelves with red Formica on some and an old till drawer and old dado panelling on the wall. The room has been combined with another small room to the far right which has a 1950s brick fireplace so it could have been like this for 50 years. Two further small rooms to the far left were brought into pub use in the 1980s. A further 'Garden Room' has been added in recent years.
