A large multi-roomed pub in an old building that has been substantially extended over the years. Its isolated setting, between the Brighouse & Denholme Road and Roper Lane, gave it a reputation for illicit gambling and drinking in the 1860's. Trade is now mainly geared to dining and functions. The premises comprise a drinking and games area, a dining area and a function room. The five handpumps on the large bar tend to feature cask ales from local breweries. A further eight keg taps offer a range of other drinks and boxed Lilley's cider is also available. The function room is very popular and is used for numerous events. A lunch club is held on Wednesdays and a carvery is available on Sundays. There are excellent views over the valley towards Halifax from the decked outside seating area.
