Some 200-years old, this traditional low-beamed local is in a residential area just off Harrogate Road (A658) and near the Industrial Museum. It was originally called the Gardeners but eventually adopted its nickname. It comprises two main rooms either side of a centrally located bar with a conservatory to the rear. When visited in May 2022, there were no real ales available and no plans to provide this in the foreseeable future (despite four hand-pulls still being present). The comfortably furnished lounge, known as the "Best Room", includes discrete seating areas. The tap room is simply furnished and contains a TV screen for showing sports and a screened darts area which includes provision to play miniature darts. A pool table is housed in the conservatory. There is a games afternoon on Sundays from 4.00pm. A beer garden and children's play area is located to the rear. Karaoke/disco nights take place on Saturdays and there is a quiz on Tuesday nights.
