This is the local branch Pub of the Year for 2018, 2019 and 2020. The Grade II listed Star and Garter reopened in early November 2016 having been closed for more than two years.
The pub, which dates from the late 19th century, has now been completely refurbished, and along with the eight handpumps, there is an imposing array of 16 "craft keg" taps. There is a superb and varying real ale range with beers from smaller breweries all over the country, with stouts and porters normally well-represented.
The pub does not provide meals, but customers are allowed to consume food from local takeaways. The owners also operate The Stormbird and the Hermits Cave in Camberwell.
