After a six year absence the Walpole finally re-opened in October 2018, following the demolition of the original pub and its replacement with a rather characterless block of student flats with a new pub on the ground floor. The bar itself has a modern but warm feel to it. Freshly baked pizza is also available. Taken over by Fourpure in September 2022 showcasing that brewery's keg beers, renovated in May 2023. It is not believed that cask ales are now sold here, there are no handpumps. May be marketing itself now as New Cross Social.
