This building was for a very long time the popular roadside Duke of York pub with its rotunda bar. From 1984 to 1990 it was the nightclub 'Buddys' before reverting to the original name. Three years later it became the Conservative Club which moved from Princes Street site with the big advantage of a large 24 space car park.
Now open again as the Duke of York.
Care should be taken exiting onto the very busy road. The pub serves Doom Bar cask ale and a range of bottled ales including Newcastle Brown. Opening hours can be variable and a lot of trade revolves around games such as skittles and pool. It is also home to a game of 'Devils among the Tailors' usually known as table skittles utilising a rare set of bottle shaped pins.
