Large rambling village pub, transformed into a popular venue for dining and drinking. There is a small tap room accessed from the main A65 and a much more spacious, partially panelled main lounge with large settees and coffee tables for lounging surrounded by more conventional tables to sit and eat. A large wood-burning stove helps warm the room in winter. Note the collection of musical instruments above the bar and elsewhere. There is also a separate small dining room suitable for meetings, family gatherings and other small functions. Ample outdoor drinking areas at both sides of the building ensure that there is always somewhere to sit in the sun, when it's shining. Up to 4 real ales are available in summer, 3 in winter, usually from local breweries and often with a choice of styles. Carvery Sunday lunch-time. Sporting events broadcast on terrestrial TV are often shown. Opening and food hours are exteded in summer school holidays - phone to check.
