Situated in a splendid walking area, this fine old country inn has early origins (14th century) but was largely rebuilt in 1930. Henry IV was born at nearby Bolingbroke Castle, which was also besieged during the civil war. The battle of Winceby, which was fought a few miles from Bolingbroke in 1643, witnessed the first nationally important victory for Oliver Cromwell's cavalry. Still part of the Duchy of Lancaster, the Black Horse is a great place to visit when exploring the Lincolnshire Wolds. Friday fish night is a speciality and themed food nights also. Lunchtime meals Sat & Sun only. Recommended to check with the pub re meals. The 3 legged pub cat, Prince Tripod of Turkey, who was a celebrity sadly passed away in 2019. Opening times shown are for Winter and expand in Summer - advisable to check in advance.
