A contemporary country pub that has been around since the building of the railway. The "Blue Ball" probably indicates property owned by the Sandford Family, but there may also be an association with the particular "marl" or "marlstone" blue clay that was mined locally.
It has been improved and extended over the years and now boasts a skittle alley which doubles as a function room.
In recent years the original large fireplace and stack has been removed to increase bar area, and a car park and beer garden have been created on the opposite side of the road.
The Blue Ball does not currently serve cask ale but do have a 'Fresh' low-carbonation keg beer on tap.
