The pub took its present name to celebrate the adoption of the Duke as Prime Minister. Haggerston appears in the Doomsday Book as Hergodstone after Hergod a local Saxon leader who erected a stone memorial in the area. .
Historic Interest
Attractive three-storey public house looking over Stonebridge Common. The buildings is very good example of Italianate style fitting in with the group of buildings forming a triangle on the common. The brick structure is on the ground floor covered with rusticated stucco. There are two full height doors either side of doorway with semi-circular arch.
