Traditional real ale pub previously a CAMRA national pub of the year
A Grade II-listed, previous CAMRA National Pub of the Year in 1991 It is situated near to the former low-level railway station. It was sympathetically refurbished in Spring 2021.
The interior consists of four areas, front bar, long lounge, snug and conservatory at the back.
It attracts a varied clientele, including a rock climbing club and railway groups. Plenty of railway memorabilia is on display and three cosy real fires blaze in the winter. A couple of TV's show terrestrial sport (rugby, snooker, darts etc).
Meals are served at lunchtimes and until 7pm, not on Sundays, and cobs and pork pies are available all day. Holden's merchandise is available (by pre-ordering only) at the same price as the brewery's shop.
The pub was once at the end of a street of terraced houses which have since all been demolished to make way for industrial development.
