A popular and friendly local in this large South Shropshire village. There's one room downstairs together with a conservatory which is used for dining. In addition, an upstairs lounge looks out onto the beer garden. There's an active social scene based at the pub.
A redecoration in 2019 saw the pub adopt a more contemporary feel.
Also, it's on the route of the summer only Shropshire Hills Shuttle bus, together with being the starting point for walk number 14 in the Walking with Offa series.
The site owner seeks planning permission for demolition and use of the site for housing (Dec 2021).
Historic Interest
You may notice a railway embankment just a little to the south. This used to carry the narrow gauge railway which brought lead ore from the mine at Snailbeach to the standard gauge railway transshipment yard nearby. Once owned by local brewery Southams, the pub was renamed the Cat & Cockatoo for a time in the 1980s, and enjoyed a 9 year spell in the Good Beer Guide (1996-2004).
This Pub serves 1 changing beer and 2 regular beers.
