This single-bar, simply-furnished free house, run by the same family for two generations, has a log fire in the winter and some unusual murals on the wall, painted by one of the family depicting other members of the family. Two guest ales, often local, and real cider available in the Summer. The name change by former owners Courage (in 1975 from New Inn) proved controversial as morris dancing teams have a fool, not a clown, and this led to a boycott for 25 years. Note the restricted opening hours if you’re planning a visit.
