This is the third pub building on the site; the first dating back to 1834 was demolished in 1936 to enable road widening. The pub was rebuilt in 1935 to plans by architect James A Swann behind the old one, however due to subsidence it was demolished in 1980. The new pub was quickly built and opened to its first customers on 17th July 1981; the internal layout was subsequently altered in 1997. It is a community local which offers both drinks and food.
