Situated at the bottom of a hill adjacent to a once-bustling shipyard, this welcoming two-roomed pub oozes character. The exterior of the pub now has a pale blue and grey colour scheme and there is a large outside drinking area and stage . The old two room layout remains unchanged but the old dark stained panelling in the bar has been changed as have some of the maritime memorabilia.
It has several open fires, polished wooden floors and beamed ceilings, and is decorated with wonderful old photographs and nautical artefacts depicting the industrial heritage of the area. The pub gets its name from the tough saltgrass that used to dominate the area before the shipyards. -
