This riverside pub has plenty to offer; from good food to camping and from free-house real ales to fishing. Located in the heart of the Shropshire countryside alongside the banks of the River Severn, it has good value-for-money bed & breakfast, a campsite and self-catering accommodation.
The pub consists of a large bar area with an open fire and a large dining room. Outside, the elevated patio with tables and umbrellas provides superb views towards the river and the surrounding countryside. There is also a large well equipped children's play area.
Breakfasts are available from 9 am at weekends, also excellent home cooked main meals, blackboard specials and Sunday roasts. A 28 pitch caravan park and an all year round camp site is popular with visitors from the West Midlands and further afield.
Hampton Loade station on the famous Severn Valley Railway is a short stroll from the pub and the sound of passing steam trains can be heard.
Historic Interest
The hamlet of Hampton Loade was once a convenient crossing point of the river Severn by use pf the foot ferry and the Unicorn Inn dates from the 16th century. A census in 1901 details that the pub consisted of 5 rooms upstairs and 4 rooms downstairs with stabling for 5 horses. It also states that there were proceedings against the premises on 23 August 1845 for permitting drunken-ness. The pub was fined £5
