The pub is now just an open plan square with a bar, but in 1825 it was called the Omar Pasha Inn until it changed its name in 1859 to the Malt Shovel Inn. It became a Fried Fish shop until March 2000 when it opened as the Soviet. The first week it offered drinks with ice from the North Pole.
