Sunderland's first JD Wetherspoon ( opened in 1997) is in a former department store opposite the Winter Gardens. All the usual features associated with the chain can be found is this busy corner pub at the heart of the city centre, including good value meals served all day. Twelve handpumps offer up to six guest beers and a cider to complement the regular range. The pub is a keen supporter of local brewers and has occasional tap takeovers. Twice yearly beer festivals are held. Wednesday is quiz night.
