The best preserved medieval house in Leicester opened as a bar/restaurant in March 2017. The central entrance leads into a stone-flagged passage, and on each side is a small separate elegant room. The corridor opens out at the back into the medieval part of the house; here is a bar area with an old beamed ceiling, and a long medieval timber-framed window on the right. The ground floor is furnished with chairs and settees. There is an extensive and very attractive outside patio area looking out onto Jubilee Square. Upstairs are two rooms with ancient beamed ceilings and good views over an historic part of the city. This is a formal restaurant with a high end menu. Simpler food is available downstairs.
Historic Interest
Wygston's House (or Wyggeston House) is a grade 2-star Listed Building. For many years it was used as a costume museum. The Georgian brick frontage was built in about 1760. but this is in fact an extension to a medieval house at the rear which dates from ca.1500. One of the outstanding features of the rear part is a long timber-framed north-facing window.

The corridor opens out at the back into the medieval part of the house; here is a bar area with replica Victorian bar fittings which has an old beamed ceiling and an outstanding long, timber-framed window. The ground floor is furnished with chairs and settees and upstairs there is a restaurant room with an impressive exposed rafter ceiling and good views. Overall it has been converted with care and attention, reflecting the magnificence of the building, with an attractive outside area. There is a full restaurant menu upstairs and a simpler menu downstairs, along with real ales and ciders.
