The premises were originally tea-rooms, then a restaurant (The Haywain) before becoming a the River & Rail pub in 2000.
This pub enjoys a delightful setting in a small hamlet on the banks of the River Severn.
There are lots of outdoor tables, a covered dining area and benches in the gardens. Note that cobs are available Wednesday to Friday. The pub itself has a single bar area and a large dining area at a lower level. Opening times may vary - call ahead to check.
Pub is run by the Penn family (2022) who previously ran the Crooked House in Lower Gornal. They are hoping to increase the hours but cannot get staff. There are no plans to sell real ale or cider.
Although close to Hampton Loade station on the SVR, the ferry is not operational, resulting in a 4-mile walk to cross the river via Alveley footbridge.
