The Malt Shovel is a much altered building made of Hornton Stone, an ironstone found nearby on the Burton Dassett Hills. The first reference to the pub as an unnamed beer house was in 1849 when Edward Neale was running it. It was first listed as the Malt Shovel in 1874 with Robert Ayres as licensee. Near the church.
