Dating originally from 1642 and claiming to be the oldest pub in town, this family run free house is a bright welcoming place to drink. There's a large stone feature fireplace to the left of the main entrance, which houses a glowing stove in winter. To the rear, the large terraced beer garden is a good place to soak up any summer sun. The fourchanging beers (only two in winter) tend to be from Cumbria and Yorkshire - a second Settle beer is usually available in addition to the Mainline. One dark beer is always available, usually a stout, a porter.
Good value food is served seven days a week, finishing earlier on Sundays (much earlier in winter) and with no food mid-week during the afternoon January to March - booking is recommended at weekends and in school holidays. Traditional Sunday lunches are served on Sundays until last food orders or until they run out if earlier.
A 'bingo quiz' is held on the first and third Monday of each month. Key sporting events are sometimes shown on the television in the games area, if they are available on terrestrial channels. Darts, dominoes and pool teams usually play Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in autumn/winter. The pub stays open until 11 if the teams are playing at home (and on Mondays if it is quiz night.)
