Rebranded and relaunched again in early 2023 under its old name of Carriages after two and a half years as the Bear at Carriages, this former wine bar, now gastropub, is situated towards the bottom end of the High Street. A small, low, ancient building with well-worn quarry tile floor and even older looking exposed wall timbers, is divided into three sections, the middle section with the bar counter being more suited to casual drinking, the furnishings are a mixture of chair styles with suitably old tables. In the dining-oriented side rooms the furniture is more formal, these rooms are at much lower and higher floor levels due to the steepness of the High Street. At the back is a covered terraced area, leading onto a south facing garden overlooking Knaresborough's Grade II listed railway station. No longer serves any real ale, but there are a variety of keg options available.
