Fox & Castle, Old Windsor

Grade 2 Listed 1951 No. 1119802. Hall house, now public house. Late C15, altered and extended C19 and mid/late C20. Timber frame with painted render infill panels; part painted brick; part underbuilt in painted brick. Some false timberwork. Old tile gabled roof. L-plan of 2 framed bays with a cross wing of one framed bay. Flat roof extension at rear; extensions at each end. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and one storey. One chimney on gable facing road, one large chimney on rear roof slope; both with clay pots. C19 and C20, 2-and 3-light casement windows. Entrance (south-west) front: irregular. Gable on left has false timbers in gable, a 2-light window on each floor and C20 door on right; chimney in centre. Main section has two 3-light windows on first floor; C20 enclosed entrance porch with hipped roof and C20 part glazed door to right of this. A 2-light window to right of door. Hipped roof extension on right with false timbers on upper level and 2-light winder under. INTERIOR: large inglenook chimney, much altered. Some timber frame exposed on ground floor with chamfered beams, but many timbers added. Good quality frame exposed on first floor with large jowled posts, tie beams and wall plates. Queen post roof.
